The Executive Committee of the 3rd Asian Youth Games (AYG) in Bahrain 2025 announced the launch of the Green Impact Award, a significant initiative aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The Green Impact Award embodies the Kingdom of Bahrain’s steadfast commitment to integrating environmental sustainability and fostering community awareness across various sectors, including sports. By encouraging participating delegations to adopt practices that mitigate carbon emissions, promote resource efficiency, and cultivate responsible environmental behavior among young athletes, this initiative seeks to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals related to Good Health and Well-being, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, and Partnerships for the Goals.
Mr. Yousef Duaij, President of the Executive Committee, said that the Green Impact Award introduces a transformative dimension to regional sporting events, intertwining athletic excellence with environmental stewardship. He emphasized that this initiative reflects the Kingdom’s belief in utilizing sports as a platform to promote sustainability and inspire youth to embrace eco-friendly practices. The award aims to recognize exemplary environmental initiatives and highlight efforts that enhance environmental awareness among participating delegations.
The award is categorized into two primary segments: the Environmental Sustainability Award, which will be conferred upon delegations that exhibit sustainable practices across facilities, accommodations, and throughout the Games, thereby demonstrating their adherence to comprehensive sustainability standards; and the Visual Green Challenge Award, which honors the most compelling visual content that captures environmental initiatives or green practices undertaken by members of participating delegations during the Games.
Field evaluations for award submissions are scheduled to take place from October 22 to 31, culminating in an awards ceremony that will honour the most outstanding environmental initiatives that encapsulate the spirit of sustainability and environmental awareness during the Games.
